The Free Software community has increased its expectations for Debian GNU / Linux at the news Friday that it version 6.0 (codename Squeeze) has been frozen to be passed to stable.
For those who do not know about the project Debian , I explain. Debian is one of the metadistribuciones GNU / Linux more popular and well organized in the world of Free Software. Development cycle is quite robust and is currently the basis for other distributions like Ubuntu , Canaima , among others.
The development cycle provides debian 4 states: experimental, unstable, testing and stable. For a software package can be passed to stable, must go through the other 3 states, each with its own period of development, testing and approval.
The freeze means that squeeze version already defined packages that will definitely be on the stable and that from now until launch will put the finishing touches.
Among the features of this new stable version of Debian we have:
- Kernel 2.6.32
- Xen 4.0 beta1
- PHP 5.3.2
- Samba 3.4
- KDE 4.4
- Gnome 2.30
- Python 2.6
- Perl 5.10
- PostgreSQL 8.4.4 and MySQL 5.1
