Anecdotally, before writing this article I was looking for the source code of the logo "Made in Socialism" in any free format (SVG, XCF) and I could find (still looking in the government pages). If Free Software is a state policy What happened?
Also, it is good to know that this article serves as a response to a fairly busy thread about putting or not the logo to Canaima GNU / Linux, discussion lists.
For starters, what is socialism? We'll let Wikipedia help us:
Socialism is a political order based on the appropriation of the means of production by the working class. Also defined by the entire socialist theory, doctrine or movement that advocates its implementation and in turn derives from the political essence of communism. Socialism may be non-state (through community ownership in a broad sense) or state (through nationalization and economic planning of production).
Wikipedia - Socialism
Nuances, shades less, and a little more suited to the situation in Venezuela, this paragraph describes the political phenomenon that is under development in the country.
In that sense, we know this: the state has appropriated some means of production, and has promoted community ownership of them through socialist enterprises and community councils. But we also know that this represents a small portion of all means of production and the majority remains in the hands of companies that are interested in what little the poor people you pass.
Are we in Socialism? This brief analysis provides evidence that we have not gotten there yet.
Socialism in Canaima GNU / Linux?
Putting aside the fact Canaima was created to satisfy a need of the Venezuelan State to the decree 3390, today we know that Canaima is a Free Software project that has a tendency to become more participatory and community. Also, inherited (and willingly shares) Philosophy of Free Software Movement: the defense of the Freedom of Knowledge and the abolition of custodial practices of large companies of the Software.
However, the socialist model applied to free software development goes beyond sharing a few simple (but important) principles.
I guess "Canaima Socialist" is a project where the people and Government share and manage harmoniously Canaima Collaborative Platform (the means of production), and based on collective knowledge (which should be disseminated by those who are owners and generators that knowledge), generating "products" (to bring them a name) for social welfare. That do not believe this is happening.
On the other hand, I firmly believe that software is a tool, and as a tool has certain features that are provided by the manufacturer to perform certain task. For example, a hammer, one end is made of solid metal and other extreme hit long and comfortable to be seized, and was probably designed to facilitate the work of individuals involved in construction. But that does not prevent a murderer comes to break somebody's head with a hammer, which is a prime example of the directionality of the tool is not established but who makes the wearer. The metadistribution Canaima GNU / Linux is (among other things) a tool, and should not be used for profit because we do not for that ... but that does not mean it can not be. The socialist tildarla to be used to prevent capitalist ends.
So back to the original point: Is it worth deceive? Why put a vile lie as logo? What is the idea behind the idea? Want capitalize politically on the success of Canaima? Do not lie still makes us different from the AD of the past.
I will agree with putting the logo when:
- In all processes involved in Canaima GNU / Linux community participate actively (People + Government) and this (represented on a board / committee) take most decisions.
- The country leads the direction that the people decide, not because he chose someone to lead and represent, but because he (collectively) to take the reins of the country.
- Have a unanimous vote of the Community Canaima saying he agreed with called socialist (unanimous that no one is forced to participate in something that has a name with which you disagree, or worse, do not have to leave).
Finally, I remind you that the experience has made us aware that it is precisely the ideological differences between the Canaima community members, which have given rise, the different projects that have developed from within. Quoting a paragraph from page "Community" in Wikipedia, we can say that the differences and contradictions are self-enhancing within a community.
The participation and cooperation of its members allow the conscious choice of transformation projects aimed at the gradual and progressive solution of the contradictions of their self-empowering.

Comrade, I consider your opinion valuable but yet do not share it because although we are not in a socialist state at all (mainly because for a revolution to take place in this entire world should be) if we are in transition of a capitalist society to a socialist society and Venezuela is world leading in the construction of the new company so it is necessary to differentiate identify and communicate progress in building the socialism of the old capitalist structure and demonstrate this new proposal or building not only denies the old but also transcends it ... And if it is true that a tool can be used for good or evil is not the tool itself, but the policy (that understanding that knowledge is collective) for mass of access knowledge and enjoyment of the goods produced by this, that in the case of Canaima (Free software) allows you to participate in a more leading role in design through a dialectical process, on the other hand I think what is meant by direct democracy which we can apply in all areas (like this) does not deny the representation which is necessary for the organization, since there must be an address (if you do not fall into anarchy) alone or adapted to address this case encargas to direct people politics in the software programming improvement programs and general operation of the operating system and its dissemination in the must for the communal and personal gain, or as Dussel said "Power Obedencial" and encouraging the direct participation of the user community (which is facilitated by the very essence of the software) to carry out the proposals for meeting their needs while exercising a kind of Comptroller.
The reason that anything that represents a power can be used to release or press is the power relations that exist in society, while access to knowledge is privilege to some and not create the conditions to be right for all power will always be used to oppress. In Venezuela it is being achieved every day more people have access to knowledge, Internet penetration has increased by 1,100%, it encourages the use of programs to suit our needs and programs alienandonos ending and if this takes place at perfection is precisely because - as Marx said - every society is born tainted by the vices of the old, nothing comes from nothing is needed to build it.
That's why I think that "Made in Socialism" is fully in line with reality and can carry the message that all developers and all those willing to work for a project of nation, for the country build socialism every day.
Socialist Fatherland or death ... win! @ Anibalespejo
The lefties love free software. Consider this, to be free and non-profit, is an example of socialist solidarity.
Before the "imperialism" of Microsoft and Windows, respond by using Linux. The latter operating system, Linux also has the peculiarity, that can be modified by any user (if you know programming) around the world, which constantly renews it. This means, according to the leftists, in a collective work, and therefore, socialist.
There are few leftists sympathetic to the Internet by "socialize" knowledge, and to support the creation of centers of free navigation "info centers", sponsored by the State, so that all have access to the network.
To this we add the sympathy felt by many leftists for Wikipedia, an encyclopedia that can be produced and edited by its visitors is inclusive and not elitist. So are Linux, Wikipedia and the Internet itself an example of cyber socialism?
Milton Friedman and Rose Friedman raises something interesting:
"Aspects such as language, arts or scientific knowledge evolve and achieve an order through the voluntary exchange among millions of individuals, without the imposition of a central body, the same principle of operation of a free market, but in this case is not These goods, services or money, but of ideas. "
Scientific discoveries are >> product of the individual contribution of each scientist, who seeks to satisfy the need to expand the boundaries of their discipline, and works with millions of scientists worldwide through the publication of his work and reading, sending and receiving single document or verbal communication.
This collaboration is voluntary, not imposed by a centralized agency or government, and seeks to satisfy a personal need that in this case is not monetary.
Is not this like the Linux programmers and developers who write in Canaima or voluntarily Wikipedia?.
Internet is a sea of knowledge (some with 2 centímentros depth) but this has more to do with conversational logic of free exchange of knowledge with state policies "socialist" to educate the masses.
If socialist internet, we could only visit sites with Marxist ideological content! and would have to apply for government permission to have our own website.
Probably would not allow us to place portals made for pure entertainment or chat rooms, or for personal gain, considering them trivial and some educational.
Internet would be utilitarian, boring, homogeneous ... totalitarian.
In conclusion
Or Internet, or Wikipedia or Linux Canaima expressions can be considered cyber socialism, then, beyond the ideology that its creators may have ...
the result of Canaima Linux Success is the result of:
> The free exchange of ideas, of no government intervention,
> Voluntary cooperation between individuals and not imposed by a personal interest.
Not always the human being satisfascer a personal interest seeks to satisfy his desire for profit, after we all have different interests, such as wanting to contribute to the progress of Canaima.
Doing an activity so disinterested in a decentralized structure, without the imposition or a centralized state planning has more to do with liberalism with socialism, later, despite the absence of profit, the results are the product of freedom, and thousands of people contributing ideas and time to this project, free of a centralized entity or a government order ...
WHY IS NOT CALLING SOFTWARE SOCIALIST,
FREE SOFTWARE IS CALLED
This comment is a copy-paste from -> http://libertadyprosperidad.wordpress.com/tag/software-libre/
Hey. I love free software and I'm not leftist, use it to Canaima is no secret that 1) is of great quality and stability. Canaima is simply brilliant. 2) As far as Windows is good but chains you, watching you and do not sell the operating system, you sell the right to use it as they find it, without any freedom.
I have not the honor of being Venezuelan. I Tico (Costa Rican) and I am an evangelical Christian and as you say that socialism is closer to the principles of Jesus Christ that American capitalism. But anyway, this comment is just to know that not all share your insights.
Chao.
Tony, I'm proud of you use Canaima being in Costa Rica.
in religion'm Theologian, and I remember the phrase
"To Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God" (Matt. 22: 21)
there separates the spiritual from the material, the celestial of the economy, but good, and we left the main theme.
Regards
Your TAS crazy dude, first you say you are Chavez and now ...
How I remember those early days (actually very close) when I fell, quasi-philosophical shock to those who stood (and still do) that that "socio Canaima is a project ..." while I wanted to tell you that there can be no such thing not operate as a genuine and assumed ownership of the means of production by those who operate on them. And when I owned, I trust in God is understood to speak of something more than a simple bill of sale of a computer: I speak of an absolute and genuine apprehension about the object and the technology that we use to operate on the technological fact - back-I did not finish plowing the sea by what I see, but the thing-for me-has completed at least for the time as has been suspended ... for now.
You say, "inherited (and willingly shares) Philosophy of Free Software Movement: the defense of the Freedom of Knowledge and the abolition of custodial practices of large companies in the Software" And I would aclararte what I aspire to be understood not as a personal criticism to anyone, and only as a vision on the subject:
1. From my point of view there is no such thing in the "philosophy" of free software, if such a thing as "philosophy" may be in the same sentence so seriously and thoroughly with the subject "free software". I mean, there is a free software ideology, no doubt about it? certainly no. Often the ideology of someone or a group will say "philosophy" but that is not-even remotely-close to philosophy understood as the search for the full experience of love for knowledge. Although this lack of full search of love for knowledge does not exist at all and all SL developers alike (we speak only of this "sector" in the SL but you know I advocate because it ceases to be so parceled mode thinking), the fact is that, generally speaking, people do-you-question-the-content-of-the-4-freedoms beyond "evaluate" if X does or does not apply. This definitely is not an attachment to the pursuit of full love of learning. Moreover, I would say that despite all the genuine curiosity and inherently inhabits each Sl activist who has full use of his attitude towards life hacker, there is also genuine traditional and increasingly ridiculous and reductive-yet- attachment to the repeluz to critical reflection and constructive, by action of the induction-deduction, attitude oberva search across the full development of love for knowledge. That said,
2. That that "the defense of the Freedom of Knowledge and the abolition of custodial practices of large corporations Software" is not far from genuine interest attached (ie source) to the four freedoms. These freedoms, originally insist, seek to circumvent the siege of licenses. This desire does not darken because they seek the emancipation of man from the yoke which is the kidnapping of knowledge by third parties (international companies, yes, but also teachers and school teachers, law, co-activism, for example, and others ) but simply is not inherent to the four freedoms. In other words, the fundamentals of free software have been greatly enriched by our efforts as activists Venezuelans, or better say, by the efforts of some of us, and increasingly in search adosarle that these freedoms are reflected and impact on the social fact and transcend the neoliberal framework that was to allow, in some way, be inserted into our national project. In other words, we must be very naive to think that the "fathers" of the liberties of the SL-whom we have heard repeatedly that this is not political and have been foreseen at the time the impact that these ideas as genuine catalysts these processes have, in our land, the impact that have been taking. The SL does not seek to abolish a system of large software business, "looking for a back door or front-I do not know-why to make possible the recovery-yes-the character genuinely free and open not only the software (and here power even if that ideology was originated in other political and socio-cultural environment different from ours), but of technology.
At some level we cross. Meanwhile, from this trench will continue to advocate for trying to put some things on the site that corresponds to, from there, move towards the possible social roots of these ideas. A hug.
are reminded that Venezuela is not red,
is yellow, blue and red
and here we all fit together, without discrimination, all who think as you will, but to work ..
remember that governments spend, and is canaima
therefore, political propaganda and thrown him to this project FREE, instead of putting "Made in socialism" may put
MADE IN VENEZUELA
or even better
DEVELOPED IN LATIN AMERICA
and thus promote the use of Canaima from Argentina to Mexico and Spain, freeing public companies and the uncertain and expensive provadas guindous
Excellent comment ...
MADE IN VENEZUELA! I hear that beautiful is that!, yellow, blue and red! than inclusive!
.
http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/logo/hecho-en-socialismo There you have the logo in EPS Made in Socialism. On the Internet there all, the question is to look for ...
Chevere you've found, but some of the contradictions to which the article refers is that the same logo was made with "Adobe Illustrator" ( http://i.imgur.com/PUxW6.png ), as we place a logo that reflects the socialist ideal but done with a tool exclusive to free software distribution? and the solution is not to open the file with inkscape and re-record to change the metadata. When our own people doing all these big advertising campaigns really believe in what they preach and use the right tools, then that is the day I'll agree to put any logo you want to have done so is ugly in the distribution Canaima.
We can not go shouting slogans against the empire by using an iphone and then ask the people to be social, share and that being rich is bad, that's a vile lies and deception.
ASI is
alone can promote Socialism with iPad is called Mario Silva,
the rest being rich is Bad
